This study examines the role of commercial banks in the performance of small and medium scale enterprises in Tanzania. (A case study of Manyoni municipality), The main objective was to examine the role of commercial banks in the performance of small and medium scale enterprises in Tanzania.
A case design was employed on the study and samples of 150 respondents were selected using purposive and convenience sampling techniques on SMEs who are found on the Manyoni municipality A combination of qualitative and quantitative approaches was used in examining the phenomenon. Data were collected using documentary reviews, interview guides, and questionnaires. Quantitative data from the questionnaires were analysed by using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) and, while qualitative data from interview guides were analysed descriptively using content analysis procedure.
The responses show the role of commercial banking in the development of SMEs in the country. The more shown that financial training is very important in contributing to the growth and development of SMEs.
Moreover, in terms of the relationship between commercial banks and SMEs are enormous to help increase the performance of the major to a great extent in particular in matters of add-ons and increased real profits in their business.
The study proposes that there are is a need for the government to improve the business condition by formulating the business policies that are going to put the SMEs in the place. The formulation of the standard curriculum for the financial training will enable the provision of the necessary means to fight in the business environment hence endure the growth and sustainability of the SMEs in the business environment. |
