The study was carried out to explore the role of mobile money transfer in promoting
small medium enterprises, a case of Kinondoni District in Dar Es Salaam region. The
study has specific three research objectives which were to determine transaction
costs charged by mobile money transfer, to determine the effectiveness the mobile
money transfer towards small medium enterprises and to determine challenges facing
SMEs in using Mobile Money Transfer services.
This study specifically drawn population from SME in Kinondoni, Dar Es Salaam as
key respondents. The study was involved a sample size of 90 respondents. The study
used convenience and purposive sampling technique to obtain the desired sample
size. The data was collected using questionnaire and interview. The study used
descriptive and inferential statistics in data analysis.
The study revealed that the study revealed that the educated were likely to conduct
business transaction by using MMT service than uneducated. The study indicated
that the service provided is expensive.
It is recommended that mobile money service provider should improve this service
adequately and ensure the system has produced a receipt which simples auditing
trials and verification purpose. Mobile money transfer service provider should
consider on improving security system of the mobile money system so as to protect
the user against fraudsters, so it is further recommended that users should be
educated on the guideline to protect them from fraudster.
