dc.description BRT has become a relevant worldwide mass public transportation mode, especially in the developing countries. The important role played by this mode of transport is due to its accessibility, flexibility, and affordability to most of the Tanzanian citizens. The study aimed at assessing of the performance of BRT project in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania since its implementation. The study used descriptive research design with both quantitative and qualitative approach. A simple random and purposive sampling were used to select a sample size of 96 respondents in BRT terminals or stations. The findings of the study on the perception of the passengers towards the service quality revealed that the majority of passengers were not satisfied with the services delivered by BRT. Respondents indicated that were not feel good service from the service provider during the peak hours where terminals fail to accommodate passengers. The study also revealed that waiting time at the bus terminals was not short as sometimes they spent a couple of minutes in the terminals to wait for the buses. This happens because of the few number of buses in the operation as the project intended to have 305 buses but only 140 buses were in operations. The project were lacking the control room which could help with the efficient and effective daily operations. Thus, majority of the respondents claimed that the service quality is not reliable, a number of buses were not satisfied. The study concluded that the DBRT system is not performing well in some areas based on the views of the respondents. Delays in journey have been reduced to a large extent though there are some delays as the waiting time at the bus terminals was not short as sometimes they spent a couple of minutes in the terminals to wait for the buses was due to the few number of buses in the operation. The study recommended that DBRT management should improve their services, repair the infrastructures of DBRT such as terminals, and roads, increasing number of buses as well as advertising the benefits of using DBRT to the passengers.
