dc.description This study assessed employee’s motivation towards job performance, drawing experiences from Spanco Raps Tanzania by finding out the nature of motivation, identifying the motivational strategies and investigating the role of motivation in relation to workers’ job performance. The study employed the case study design accompanied by qualitative research approach with some quantitative aspects. Using purposive sampling, a total of 42 respondents took part in the study involving the director, the human resource manager and workers. Data collection and interpretation were guided by the expectance theory, hygiene theory hierarchy of needs theory, and theory “x” and theory “y”. A triangulated data collection strategy was deployed including interviews, focus group discussions and documentary review. All the generated data were subjected to content analysis for the purpose of obtaining themes and sub-themes of the study. The findings indicated that, (i) Both intrinsic and extrinsic motivations are vital in worker’s job performance, (ii) Promotions, salaries, training of staff and working environment were among the strategies used to motivate workers, (iii) Ways to perform jobs, customer’s needs and ownership of the work are among the roles of motivation. The study recommends that, policy is needed to safeguard interests of the workers and employers to ensure good practices, Directors should consider a variety of motivational strategies, Human resource Manager be knowledgeable on various issues related to promotions criteria, work load policy and so on; and that other studies should be done to other telecommunication companies.
