This study based itself to the legal and practical issues relating to adultery in Tanzania Mainland, making Dar es Salaam Region a case study. In discussing, the study analyses a range of factors which contribute the courts to award damages which includes some of exemplary or punishment on adultery. It examines and discusses the meaning and concept of adultery in matrimonial law, types of adultery, proof of adultery in matrimonial law and the burden of proof of adultery.
The historical development of the law on adultery is as well made. It also discusses adultery in some selected cultural and religious traditions, especially Christianity and Islam. Furthermore, the chapter also discusses the areas of law relevant to adultery. A critical analysis of the research findings is also made. The analysis puts in the lime light some weaknesses which are apparent in the law. So, recommendations together with alternative solutions are made to remedy the situation.
