The main purpose of the study was to analyse the factor affecting the performance of procurement management unit in public organizations, a case of Tanzania electric supply company (TANESCO). The study focused on four specific objectives namely: to determine the extent to which procurement planning enhance performance of procurement management unit in public organizations, to examine the influence of contract management toward performance of procurement management unit, to identify the effect of resource allocation on the performance of procurement management unit and to analyze the effect of professionalism of workforce toward performance of procurement management unit.
The study used a case study design. Data were collected through questionnaires, and documentary reviews. The researcher employed purposive sampling technique in obtaining 90 respondents from the field. Descriptive analysis was used to analyse preliminary data. Factor analysis was applied to test and measure scale of variables, and lastly n simple regression analysis modal was used to measure the relationship among variables. The findings obtained from the filled indicate that the organization prepares the procurement planning in both short -term and long- term plans, the funds that are allocated for the implementation are not sufficient also, some challenges are encountered. The findings show that the organization is characterized with qualified and skilled personnel who perform procurement activities. Furthermore, the professionalism of workforce influences procurement performance at TANESCO. The study recommends that TANESCO and other public organization should make sure that the procurement planning are well time managed, also the government should allocate sufficient fund in time when requested to facilitate procurement activities in the organization. also organization must provide regular training to keep employees up to date and more effective in their profession, also organization must make sure that contract management are well controlled and procurement management unit to ensure efficient and effectiveness through professionalism.
