This study aimed to assess factors associated with performance of supply chain of
Bottled water in Zanzibar: A case study of Drop of Zanzibar Company Limited. This
Company embracing and applying necessary measures capable of addressing factors that
tend to hinder and affect smooth running of performance of supply chain which seem to
be an uphill task. The researcher therefore decided to conduct this study to gain useful
insight information that could help the company avoid such effects. The specific
objectives of the study were to assess on the performances of supply chain of bottled
water at Drop of Zanzibar Ltd on the effects of: environmental uncertainty, information
technology, influence of government support and effects of supply chain relationships
on performance of Supply Chain of bottled water industry in Zanzibar. The primary data
was collected using questioners filled-in by a sample of 90 ICD respondents using
purposive sampling procedure from the company’s different departments, whereas
Secondary data was extracted from journals and other published documents. Exploratory
study design applied was descriptive data analysis using SPSS computer package. The
study found that most of the Company’s manpower possess University education and are
aged between (18 to 40) years. Majority of the respondents agree that uncertainty on
rainfall cannot affect the performance of Supply Chain of bottled water. The study also
found that weather changes influence the performance of supply chain of bottled water
at Drop of Zanzibar Ltd. It was also revealed that online communication among the
water bottler staffs is at higher levels and workers are active in replaying emails for
immediate actions. The researcher found that organization use PMIS to handle
procurement activities. Most of the respondents agree that the government provides
favorable policy to water bottlers on their production activities. The researcher
recommend company’s management to improve ICT system capable of enhancing SC
performance to ensure timely operations, increasing management integrity, provision of
clear records among other factors. The Government on the other hand is advised to assist
in building a mega robust ICT infrastructure capable of meeting current developments
and technological changes in the industry and reduce network problems.
