The main research objective was to examine the influence of business registration on
profit and sales of women SMEs in Tanzania, a case study of t Ilala and Kinondoni
Districts. The specific research objectives were tofind out how business registration
process affects sales of women SMEs, to find out how business registration affects
profits of women SMEs and to assess business registration process towards
formalization and registration of women SMEs. The study involved 200 respondents
by using purposive sampling techniques. Both primary and secondary data collection
methods were employed. The study was quantitative in nature and thus SPPS software
was used to analyze the data. Furthermore, the results were presented in tables and
figures.
Results show that business registration plays a greater role towards enhancing
improvement of sales in a business. This has proved to be so because after registering
their businesses about 132(66%) of the women entrepreneurs had access to financial
institutions like banks to get loan. Furthermore, immediately after registering their
businesses their sales volume increased on which on daily basis women entrepreneurs
sold and get more money.Some of the respondents got a profit of TZS 1,000,000/= per
monthafter registration of their businesses.Furthermore, the training attended by
respondents enabled them to register their businesses.
As also narrated by respondents after business registration women entrepreneurs were
availed with electronic devices such as EFD machines which ensured that the received
money was not misused and all these increased sales volumes. For instance, some of
the respondents increased the sales volume from TZS 600,000/= to TZS 800,000 per
month after registration of their businesses.Moreover, the study found that, business
registration plays a greater role on increasing the profit volumes of a business
enterprises. This was evidenced through easier access to loan, legal protection and the
increase of network and customer size.
Finally, the study revealed that there are long and complicated procedures that impedes
business registration of women SMEs in Tanzania. The most mentioned long and
complicated procedures include Name clearance application process, Declaration of
compliance application process, Certificate of incorporation application process,
Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) application process, Business license and VAT
certificate application process. All these involve a long and complicated procedures
that in turn impedes and discourage registration of women SMEs in Tanzania. |
