The study on impacts of CSR on peasant communities of Tanzania was conducted in
Bagamoyo district in Kiwangwa involving 100 respondents who participated in the
study. The study based on a general objective; to find out the impacts of CSR towards
community development of peasant communities of Bagamoyo in Tanzania and also
on three specific objectives which were; to establish how CSR contributes
economically to the peasant community; to examine the contribution of CSR towards
social welfare of the peasant communities and; to find out the contribution of CSR
towards environment sustainability in Bagamoyo. A Survey research design was used
engaging both qualitative and quantitative approaches in data collection aided by
questionnaires, interviews, FGDs and observations Purposive sampling technique was
used to collect data from the sample in relation to the study variables. The collected
data was analysed and presented using graphs and percentage computations as well as
explanations in paragraphs to expound on the interpretations of the findings. The study
found out that business organisations in Bagamoyo were not realistically engaging in
CSR as it is required of them. The organisations neither practically engaged in
Economic boost activities nor did they engage in social welfare improvement
programs. However, CSR was found to be impactful through environmental
sustainability activities. The study concluded that there is no CSR done by the business
organization in economic development activities and social welfare improvement of
the peasants but only in environmental sustainability. Bagamoyo lacks the contribution
of CSR as there is low development and low standards of living partly due to failure
of CSR by business organisations. Recommendations of the study are that; business
organization should engage in general economic development programs through
assisting the peasants in their production activities to enhance development mind the
social welfare of the community and maintain the involvement in environment
sustainability programs to avoid irreversible effects of environmental destruction and,
for the government to amend the policy on CSR.
