The challenge of ineffective inventory management system was detected since then
worldwide. No wonder that many organization in developing countries have not yet
given it a priority, the prominence it deserves. Hence, the problem of inventory
control could be the reason to the failure of quality production. The study therefore
sought to explore the effectiveness of inventory control management. The study
supplied case study design, using TANESCO staff as a sample size including
procurement management unit, tender board, Account and Finance, Generation,
Transmission and Distribution. The study applied both descriptive and inferential
statistics on data analysis techniques to determine the influence of stock management
software, procurement management policy and procurement professionalisms on the
effective inventory control. The study found out that the application of stock
management software is very significant toward the effective inventory control.
Furthermore, it is observed that with stock management software the inventory
management provides a critical information about the condition of the materials in
the inventory or products for the case of firm operations, accurate information.
Again, the study aimed at examining the influence of procurement management
policy on the effectiveness of inventory management system. Nevertheless, stock
management software has less significance “influence on the risk management of the
inventory control systems. From the study findings it is recommended that public
ENTITIES dealing with inventory control and procurement in the country should
uphold integrity through PPA, PPRA and regulations to ensure that there are no stock
management malpractices and there is informed decision-making, which requires
public ENTITIES to base decisions on accurate information and ensure that
requirements are being met. Again, the study recommend that policy maker must
strive to make sure, policy vision strives to create inventory control which is “wellfunctioning, competitive, accountable and transparent system that engenders and
secures the confidence of the Tanzanian people, and the national and the
international community in the procurement profession and functions.
