Over the years, shipping agencies have been playing a significant role in the
development of the economy of Tanzania. Despite of its importance in developing
the economy of the country, the shipping agencies have been facing various
challenges and they are still facing challenges in their routine operations.
The aim of the study was to examine the challenges facing shipping agencies in
Tanzania. The study followed descriptive designs using a set of 100 respondent from
various shipping agencies in Dar-es-salaam. Purposive and simple random sampling
was used to get the number of respondents during the study. Two types of data were
collected, primary data and secondary data.
The findings from the study revealed challenges facing the shipping agencies in their
routine operations. Some of the challenges faced are policy inconsistences, unfair
competition, monopoly in some ships and foreign dominance of the industry. The
challenges facing the industry hampers negatively the shipping agencies in their daily
operations and developments in general. |
