dc.description The study investigated determinants of performance of public enterprises using a few selected public enterprises in Tanzania. The study employed study multiple case study design to investigate the study problem where sample of five public enterprises namely TANESCO, TRC, TPA, NHC and TTCL were selected using probability sampling technique. The results obtained were analysed using descriptive statistics as well as regression analysis. The study revealed that top management support and change management in an institution are the operational factors that determine significantly performance of public enterprises in Tanzania while communication linkage and organization culture are operational factors that doesn‟t determine significantly performance of public enterprises in Tanzania. The study found that technical expertise in service delivery process and application of technology are the technical factors that determine significantly performance of public enterprises in Tanzania while combination of service delivery technique and managing marketing strategy are technical factors that doesn‟t determine significantly performance of public enterprises in Tanzania. The study found that promoting employees welfare, equipping physical facilities and finance; and retaining relations with stakeholders are the administrative factors that determine significantly performance of public enterprises in Tanzania while interpret organization policies is administrative factor that doesn‟t determine significantly performance of public enterprises in Tanzania. The study recommended that management of public enterprises have to promote effective top management support for the operation of public enterprises as well as facilitate change of management as means of facilitating better performance of public enterprises in future. The study recommends management of public enterprises have to make sure that they invests on technical expertise in service delivery process and application of technology as means of promoting better performance of public enterprises in Tanzania.
