This study aimed at investigating the contribution of employee motivation through
promotion on job satisfaction in the health sector at Nkasi district council.
The study was guided by three specific objectives which are; To establish the trend of
employee motivation through promotion at NDC for five year from 2015/16: Assess
the extent to which employee motivation through promotion fuels job satisfaction of
health workers in the district; To find out strategies for managing employee
motivation through promotion in Nkasi district council
The study used a mixed research design however it was more qualitative since it
contained more inferential statistics. The data collection employed questionnaires and
documentary review methods. The study sample was obtained through simple
random, purposive and snowball sampling techniques and a total of 114 respondents
formed the sample size of the study.
The findings indicated that motivation of employees through promotion contributes to
job satisfaction. The findings also revealed that 50.9% employees were not promoted
for the entire period of 2015- 2019/20. Likewise, the actual findings on the payroll of
NDC revealed that only 14.2% employees were promoted for the afore-mentioned
period. This suggests that employees were not promoted for more than 85.8% and
that implies that, the trend of motivating employees through promotion is not good at
NDC. Some of the impacts include delayed salary increment, wages and failure of
assignment into new responsibilities of higher grades.
Conclusion, The study recommends the integration of an automated promotion in the
human capital management and information system so that promotions do not wait
one’s discretions. Based on the recommended approach, employees are promoted
automatically in the system when time is due. This will serve as a solution to delayed
promotions hence employee motivation and increased satisfaction. |
