This study aimed at investigating the contribution of ICT in improving good
governance in public institutions in Tanzania. The main objectives of the study were
to identify factors that determine good governance at the Ministry of Natural
Resource and Tourism as far as ICT is concerned, to identify factors that hinder the
promotion of good governance in the Ministry of Natural Resource and Tourism as
far as ICT is concerned and to provide suggestions on how to improve good
governance through implementation of ICT.
In the course of realizing the objectives of this study, the research employed
questionnaires, observation and interview as the data collection methods. In this
study, the researcher used both simple random sampling and systematic random
sampling techniques. These methods were in line with the research design aimed at
in this study. The study used case study research design. The quantitative data were
analysed through excel program.
The study revealed that despite having the legal and policy framework for ICT and
appreciation of the contribution of ICT in improving good governance in public
institutions in Tanzania. Still there are some challenges that hinder the effectiveness
of ICT implementation in the course of improving good governance in public
institution in Tanzania. Such challenges include poor infrastructure, lack of expert,
financial resources and lack of commitment and willingness.
Therefore, it is recommended that it is high time the government to support ICT by
giving priority to ICT as a tool for the improvement of good governance in the public
sector.
