The main purpose of this study was to critically examine the impact of community
involvement in the development of public secondary schools in Shinyanga District. The
study objectives were to: Determine the nature of community involvement in the
development of public secondary schools, identify the impact of community involvement
in the development of public secondary schools, determine challenges hindering
community involvement and finally identify the possible solutions. The research used
both quantitative and qualitative research approaches. The study obtained information
from 123 participants from 3 schools. The researcher used questionnaires, observation
checklist and interview guide to collect data. The study found out that, community
members were involved in school matters through their contributions in form of money,
labor and material provision. The study discovered that there was very low community
involvement and thus low impact on public secondary school development. The study
recommended that all responsible organs should educate community members of their
role to raise their participation in public secondary schools.
