Dissertation (MA Development Studies)The contribution of TASAF project to poverty alleviation among rural women in Makunduchi – Zanzibar was assessed. To accomplish the study data was collected from four (4) villages and these were: Kijini, Mzuri, Kajengwa and Nganani. The information on major economic activities of the women, value of capital assets owned by women, challenges that women face during the funds receiving was examined. Tools such as questionnaire, interview guide and group discussion checklist were used during the data collection. Four major economic activities which include tailoring seaweed and string farming business were mentioned in the study area. The study showed that the value of capital assets before TASAF fund was 49.5% whereby after it was 20.2%. The results also showed that bureaucracy, selected embezzlement as the challenges facing women in accessing funds. The contributions of TASAF to poverty alleviation of the women in Makunduchi Zanzibar were acknowledged to be a success. A large number of the women in Makunduchi are now engaged in different economic activities from which they gain some income. The TASAF leaders should try their best to overcome the challenges that they face during supplying services.
