dc.description Dissertation (MSc Nursing Education)
dc.description Background: The Competence-Based Education and Training curriculum is a curriculum that emphasizes the complex outcomes of a learning process (knowledge, skills and attitude to be applied by learner). Tanzania adopted and started the implementation of CBET Curriculum among diploma nursing schools since 2008. This study intended to determine the factors influencing nurse students’ perception on implementation of Competence-Based Education and Training curriculum among diploma nursing schools in Tanzania. Methods: The analytical cross-sectional study design and simple random sampling technique was used to select the Central and Eastern zones of Tanzania. The 422 diploma nursing students were obtained through systematic sampling technique. Data were collected through a semi structure questionnaire. Frequency and percentage were used to describe the social demographic characteristics and their perception. Logistic Regression was used to determine the factors influencing nurse students’ perception on implementation of Competence-Based Education and Training curriculum. Results: Perception on implementation of Competence-Based Education and Training curriculum stood at 83% (positive perception). Factors reported to influence students’ perception on the implementation of Competence-Based Education and Training curriculum include the institutional factors (AOR=3.033, p=0.001, CI 1.593-5.773), student characteristics factors (AOR=0.482, P=0.039, CI 0.241-0.964). Conclusion: Competence- Based Education and Training curriculum is highly implemented in diploma nursing schools. Besides, factors such as institutional factors and students’ characteristics factors influence the nurse students’ perception.
