dc.description This study assessed the effectiveness of employee selection process in Tanzania’s public sector. The research was conducted at Dodoma City Council using a sample of 44 employees from Dodoma City Council. The main purpose of the study was to find out the effectiveness of employee’s selection process in Tanzania’s public sector. To reach this objective, the study examined the employee’s selection procedures, effectiveness; challenges and factors that can help to improve the interview process at Dodoma City Council. The data for the study were collected through interviews, questionnaire, and documentary reviews. Qualitative data were subjected to content analysis while the quantitative data were summarized in tables and charts. The research findings showed that, at Dodoma City Council, the employee selection process faces a number of challenges including lack of authority to decide matters related to employees selections process, lack of fund, poor marking schemes for interview questions, lack of time which lead to pressure to fill an open vacancy etc. These challenges have contributed to unnecessary complains towards the organization. The worst is that the organization has ended up hiring incompetent individuals. The study, therefore, recommended that public institutions should improve employee’s selection procedures to rescue the good reputation of public sector. It is also recommended that the interviews panel members who lacked the necessary skills should be developed through on-job training. However, there is a need for more comprehensive research to assess the effectiveness of employee selection process in Tanzania’s Public Sector in a wider perspective, instead of just depending on a single case study.
