This study aimed at investigating the impact of training and development on employee work
performance in public organizations in Nyamagana district and finds out factors that affect
training and development on employee work performance in government organizations and
suggests some measures which add value to the training and development programs.
The study used a non experimental cross section design that allowed the uses of
questionnaires and interview in which sample size of 96 respondents was used. It selected
these respondents by using probability sampling technique in which simple random sampling
to obtain public organization employees. Under non probability sampling, purposeful
sampling was applied to obtain key informants.
The findings revealed that training and development of public organization employees
helped to improve public organizations employees in work performance such as increasing
productivity, Quality of work through knowledge and skills from training and development
which enhance work performance. Besides, training and development of employee s on
work performance in public organization is affected by shortage of funds which delay
training and development. Also, poor management in public sector affects training and
development and nepotism in training chance which increase delay of training and
development. Thus provision of short term training and sponsorship in training and
development of employees are measures for increasing work performance.
Thus the government must emphasize on- job training for work productivity and quality that
enhance work performance. Policy makers make policy that will be committed to training
and development and public organization keen on the short terms training for enhancement
of work performance and a longitudinal study should be adopted. This may provide deeper
insight into the relationship between training and development in work performance among
public organizations. |
