The purpose of this research was to asses to what extent is labour turnover among the
Agricultural officers in the Agricultural sector of Tanzania. The study was conducted
at Tanzania Smallholders Tea Development Agency (TSHTDA) and Kibena Tea
Company (KTC) located in Dar Es Salaam and Njombe respectively.
The objectives were to examine the magnitude of labour turnovers in the Agricultural
organizations, the factor that influence labour turnovers of the Agricultural officers,
its implications to the Agricultural sector and how they can prevent it.
The data collection methods comprised of questionnaires, interview and
documentary sources which were instituted by the researcher. A sample of 60
respondents, 30 from each organization was chosen for this study using purposive
and convenient criteria. The study used a case study design. Quantitative and
qualitative data analysis was also opted in this study.
The results revealed that labour turnover continues to be a very serious problem
affecting many organizations especially those dealing with agriculture. Geographical
locations in the sense of working conditions and lack of career developments have
been identified as the major factors among the many mentioned to be behind it.
Several recommendations have been made to enhance and prevent the Agricultural
Organizations from having high turnovers in order to compete with other
organizations including improving staff development efforts, work on improving the
policies, systems and procedures. |
