dc.description Dramatic changes in the economy and the consequent corporate restructuring are bringing forth significant transformation in organization structure and work practices. There are changes taking place in the structure of jobs, skills requirements, and the labor management structures. Changes in this magnitude in the corporate world have significant implications for training and development of the workforce. This study was focused on the Contribution of Human Resources Development to the Performance of the Organization: A Case of Tanesco- Kihansi Hydro Power Plant, Mlimba, Ifakara, Morogoro. The research has shown beyond doubt that there are number of human resource development programs at the scoped area, and those programs has played a significant role on the performance of the organization. However the organization is being faced with a number of challenges, which to some extent are impeding the realization to the fruits of human resource development through effective and efficient performance. What can be said or recommended is that, as business practices and manufacturing processes evolve company’s needs for developing the capabilities of their workforces. As discussed in the report, human resource development has been consistent vehicle for developing those capabilities. Some of the current management literature, specifies that Human resource development can no longer be an isolated activity within an organization. Training offered to employees without any context is often given a poor prognosis for success because it is not linked to or supported by other organizational initiatives. On the other hand, when human resource development is aligned with other strategic initiatives, managed as a process, and placed in the broader context of high performance work organizations, it becomes a significant contributor to the firm’s strategic planning and success
