This dissertation looks on the management strategies against teachers turn over in
Secondary Schools in Ilala Municipality. It is argued that there are the problems of
teacher’s turnovers in secondary schools, which emanate from a lack of job
satisfaction. Dissatisfaction could be due to a lack of psychological problems in the
job, perceptions and realistic remuneration, and an unwelcoming climate within the
school. Turnover may be costful to a school to suffer the following; loss of skilled
teachers and disruption in the time table.
These factors; (loss of skilled teachers and disruption in the time table) contributed to
a culture of school organization or inefficiency management strategies in ministry of
education, or municipal education offices, as the result they lead to shortage of
teachers in the school which creates poor education performance in secondary
schools in Tanzania. The foundation of this study was therefore based on the main
objective which was to explain the nature and effects of teacher’s turnover and
procedures of accessing them and solicits constraints and challenges that
understanding factor that facilitate secondary school teacher’s turnover and to find
feasible mechanisms for addressing the problem in Tanzania.
This research reviewed various sources of literature written and presented by
different scholars about nature and effects of secondary school teacher’s turnover.
Review of related literature such as in text books, journals, and surfing through the
internet. Research methodology, researcher used systematic approach in data
collection and statistical research design and descriptive case study in nature where
secondary schools perform in improving education sector in Tanzania. The
approaches been used to obtain primary and secondary data. About 70 respondents
were involved in the study from six secondary schools that two come from private
and the least four government secondary schools at Ilala Municipal, other
respondents included each three education officers from ministry of education, and
Ilala education officers and the least four respondents from Nongovernmental
organization (HAKI ELIMU).
The research presented analyses and discussed the finding of the study, and shows
that the there is a serious problems of secondary school teachers turnover because of
poor management strategies. Most of the teachers agree that poor performance of the
management as a source of teacher’s turnover which leads to poor performance in
secondary schools.
The study gave recommendations on the factors that may help to minimize secondary
school teachers’ turnover and to find feasible mechanisms for addressing the problem
in Tanzania.
