The study focuses on the role of training in improving the performance of Tanzania
Police Force. The main objective of this study was to understand how training
enhance police force performance in Tanzania. In order to pursue the above objective
the researcher tries to identify training practices at Tanzania Police force, examine
whether training has played a role in improving organization performance, establish
the relationship between the lack of training and organization performance and
suggest appropriate measure to bring about improvement of organization
performance through training.
The case study research design was used and various methods were employed in data
collection. These include primary method, questionnaires, interview, observation,
discussion and documentary reviews.
The study revealed that training has impact to the performance improvement. The
findings indicate that, training leads to prevention of crime, crime reduction,
preservation of the peace, maintenance of law and order, protection of property,
reduce traffic accident and traffic jam, reduce complain from public, effective
interview of witness and criminal, observation of human right in police work,
increase the number of criminal case reported to the police, effective patrol, effective
preservation and collection of physical evidence, increase community cooperation
and increase the rate of conviction case before the court of law.
The study recommended some measures to be taken for the Police Force to improve
training program for performance improvement. These includes allocation of more
funds, having training policy, support from management for training effectiveness,
training needs assessment, having a competent training officers, choosing a right
trainee, choosing a right trainer employee participation and motivation.
