The main theme of this paper was to asses the role of job enrichment on human resource management at TPA, to accomplish the task various specific objectives were established, the first specific objectives was intended to establish the existence of techniques for job enrichment at TPA as a results techniques for job enrichment were explored and it was identified that a number of practices reflect the existence of job enrichment at TPA. To include achievements from the job, the work allows using different skills and talents, increase responsibilities, recognition from job, challenging work, potential growth and development, substantial freedom, independence, and discretion in determining the procedures to be used in carrying out job and feedback on performance.
The study was conducted at Tanzania Ports Authority using a case study design, and based on qualitative approach. Total number of 50 respondents constituted a study sample. Both secondary and primary data were used; primary data were obtained through interview, observation, questionnaire and secondary data were obtained through review of existing literature
the study revealed that, despite of having various practices of job enrichment which play a great role in human resource management at TPA and also it has benefits on increasing job performance, employees become more productivity, job enrichments increase customer satisfaction, increase work morale, job enrichment facilitate team work, job enrichments increase efficiency and effectiveness on work process and job enrichment lead to person growth.
The findings of the study reveal that even though job enrichment has a number of benefits , but a number of constraints for job enrichment practices were identified, the constrains which lead to an ineffective job enrichment practices at TPA includes that workers dislike more responsibility, workers dislike challenging work.
