The study was conducted at Tanzania Electric Supply Company limited and 80 respondents participated. The general objective was to investigate the influence of industrial relations practices to organizations performance. Specific objectives were to determine industrial relations practices in TANESCO, to determine to what extent good industrial relations is a contributing factor to effective performance of TANESCO, to identify causes of poor performance in TANESCO and services that needs to be improved and to identify factors that will lead to good industrial relation practice to improve organizational performance. Case study design and qualitative research approach were employed during the study. Data collection methods included Questionnaires, focus group discussion, interviews, observations and documentary review.
Study results showed that employees at the surveyed TANESCO Head Quarters knows number of Industrial Relations practices available in TANESCO such as collective bargaining, workers council, health and safety and Human resources policies as guiding rules in their daily performance.
The findings proved that to large extent human resources department has not contributed much in the achievement of the particular goal. The effective performance of the employees should have started earlier from the recruitment due human resources plans specifically industrial relations practices.
It was advised that various factors have been mentioned as the solutions of those challenges. It was revealed that positive attitude from management, honesty leadership, and regular communication to the employees, regular training and capacity building of human resources and industrial relations practitioners these will make industrial relations implementation at TANESCO more effective and fulfill its role of helping in the contribution of the company performance |
