dc.description The study examined Used Imported Car Industry in Tanzania with Reference to Dar es Salaam Region. The main objective of the study was to determine Used Imported Car Industry in Dar es Salaam, specific objectives included to analyze trend in import of used cars, to identify factors influencing import of used cars, to analyze customer’s perception regarding relative advantage of imported used cars and to analyze the perceived impact of used cars on traffic and environment. The research design used was case study strategy whereby a single unit was selected data collection methods includes interviews, questionnaires, observation and documentary review. Data were analysed through Statistical Package of Social Science. Findings revealed that people in Dar es Salaam bought used cars because there are cheap compared to new cars, having friends and relatives in foreign countries, availability of used cars among others. Also, the available findings indicates that, used cars had are advantageous especially on income, job creation, ease mobility, etc, although it was also found out that used cars led to environmental pollution in Dar es Salaam. The study conclude that, the contribution of Transportation Systems to the economy and the welfare of the society are very significant and must play a major role in the development programs of a nation and a country. Poor Transportation Systems and networks cause enormous losses due to traffic congestion and road accidents, far beyond the cost of the development of efficient systems. Based on the findings, it was recommended that expanding and adding roads can immediately reduce congestion and improve traffic flow, the creation of new roads decreases congestion while increasing overall access to businesses, shopping, recreation and family as a result of more efficient driving routes. There should be modernization of traffic lights in Dar es Salaam; also mass transport should be encouraged.
