The study aimed at making an evaluation on how the practice of clinical supervision led
into improvement of teaching and learning in public secondary schools in Missenyi
District.It employed mixed research approach as well as a convergent parallel research
design. Eighty-seven (87) respondents (60 teachers, 4 heads of school, 6 School Quality
Assurance officers,16 Ward Education officers and 1 District secondary education
officer)were included.They were selected through purposive and simple random
sampling techniques. Data were collected using open-ended questionnaires and closed
ended interviews. Quantitative data were analysed using frequencies, percentages, tables
and figures through SPSS software version 20 while qualitative information were
analysed through coding, categories and themes. Four research objectives were used to
analyse data based on the study.The findingsestablish that clinical supervision play a
fundamental role in improving teaching and learning if well practiced in public
secondary schools.It was revealed that supervisors’ and teachers’
commitment,accountability, transparency,good working environment, good governance
policy and on-time feedback influenced teachers’ professional development and
growth.The study recommended that the governmentshould ensure there is clear
policies which guide better secondary school supervisionpractices to achieveimproved
teaching and learning; school supervisors should ensure there is improvement of
teaching and learning including improvement of mutual relationship, good environment
for work, positive teachers’ perception toward supervision and goal oriented
supervision, teachers to develop and grow professionally, realize their duties and
commit in their performance when given mutual supervisor-supervisee relationship and
conducive working conditions in schools to attain the set school goals and objectives. |
