Dissertation (MA Public Administration)This study has investigated the influence of training on administrative performance in Regional Administration in Tanzania using Dodoma regional secretariat as a case study. This study based on performance –based training design theory designed by (Pucel, 1989); the theory emphasizes the importance to train employees on the job which enables them to do the job well. Thus, it aims to provide the theoretical bases of the study in terms of knowledge, skills and attitude of employee toward performance. The research methodology employed both qualitative and quantitative data. Sampling techniques used to obtain sample were simple randomly sampling and purposive sampling where 70 respondents were selected. Data were collected using questionnaires and interviews; then analysed using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) software version 16 and other qualitative techniques. The findings revealed that a majority of the respondents did not have enough knowledge on policy implementation. RS staffs have inadequate skills to perform their function due to lack of relevant training. Also the study indicated that majority of the administrative cadre has negative attitude on maintenance of law and order; because they see that it is not their function. Training has positive influence on administrative performance and what management should do is to invest in training of staff for better performance. Lack of training can cause poor performance in the organization. Therefore, it is recommended that the Dodoma Regional Secretariat should put emphasis on training and prioritize systematic training for improving performance of its staff.
