dc.description The determination of the study was to investigate the effectiveness of counseling techniques in improving students’ behavior of secondary schools the case of Dodoma Municipality. The key objective of the study was to examine the effectiveness of counseling techniques employed by the teachers during offering counseling services in improving students’ behaviors in secondary schools. The study involved mixed research approach. It adopted also descriptive survey research design and conducted in three selected secondary schools located in Dodoma Municipality. CIPP Model was used in guiding the study. A total of 120 respondents, took part in the study. Simple random sampling was used in selecting 90 students of form two and form four from the targeted three secondary schools and purposive sampling was used to select 30 teachers. Questionnaires and interview were employed as data collection instruments were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. Data from interviews were contented and analyzed the theme as to extract important evidence while findings from questionnaires were subjected to quantitative analysis of data. Tabulation and calculation of percentages according to the questions investigated was used physically. The study discovered that secondary schools in Dodoma Municipality practiced counseling techniques and behaviors were improved although other students still have behavior which is not good due to the challenges encountered by teachers. The study recommends that students should be given a chance of choosing the counselor who is transparent. The process of counseling techniques should start at home and parents should be a key director of the students’ behavior by making follow up of their daily activities.
