dc.description This study was designed to examine the challenges for implementing Sustainable Urban Infrastructure Development in Tanzania. The objective was to assess the level of urban infrastructural development in Tanzania that would ensure sustainable urban development focusing on the implementation of TSCP in Dodoma Municipality. TSCP was meant to generate significant social benefits through infrastructure improvement, rehabilitation and upgrading of urban roads and drainage, construction of bus stands, improving transport services, thus provides improved all- season to key economic and social facilities. The review of literature has informed the study that land use policies, physical planning and infrastructure provision play an important role in ensuring sustainable urban development. The three aspects above are said to be necessarily imperative as they produce the opportunities and desirable outputs for the consumers (society). While the literature provides that urbanization is occurring at an unprecedented pace worldwide, on the other hand, there are difficulties to provide adequate infrastructure to cope with it. The effective development, supply and maintenance of roads for transport, electricity, water, sanitation, and garbage collection are important in addressing the ongoing rapid urbanization. This study adopted a descriptive design. Both probability and non-probability sampling were employed with 100 respondents. Data were collected through questionnaire and interview and were analyzed using SPSS version 20, excel and descriptive method. The results revealed that to a large extent community members in the study area are aware and satisfied with the level of implementation of TSCP. The study concluded projects such as TSCP are very instrumental and they contribute to sustainable urban development in different ways. Therefore, there is a need to increase the means of developing urban infrastructure through different projects so as to facilitate the growing population in Tanzania to cope with the ongoing rapid urbanization in the country.
