dc.description This study explored the relationship between teachers and parents and its contribution in improving students’ academic performance in community secondary schools. The study used qualitative research approach and supported by some elements of quantitative research approach. The study employed a cross–sectional research design. Purposive and random sampling techniques were used to select 91 respondents. Data were gathered through questionnaires, semi-structured interviews and documentary reviews. Qualitative data were analyzed thematically in line with research objectives which formed the major themes and sub themes where as quantitative data were analyzed descriptively. The findings of the study indicated that the existed relationship between teachers and parents in some community secondary schools is not attractive to support students’ learning. Also the study found that the major reasons for poor relationship between teachers and parents are low level of education of the parents, lack of financial transparency by heads of schools and poor communication network between teachers and parents. It was further revealed that poor relationship between teachers and parents has highly affected students’ academic performance. The study recommended that, in order to have sustainable teachers-parents relationship, there should be; strong sensitization of the parents on the importance of education for their children, regular parent meetings, good communication network, involving parents in school programmes and in decision making, negotiation and reconciliation between teachers and parents.
