The National Social Security Fund (NSSF) in Mwanza city has embarked on
Knowledge and skills programme to strengthening competitive advantage and
workers ability to perform caused by the existing employment challenges. The
objective of the study is to examine the contribution of knowledge and proficiency
skills of NSSF workers in Mwanza city.
Research questions aimed to find out variation of contribution of workers knowledge
and skills to the prevailing situation and the customer’s views towards the day to day
performance of the NSSF workers.
The sample comprised of 74 respondents both customers and workers from twelve
departments who had passed school (University, colleges) or had certain work
ability and experience that contributed to the existence of the organization.
The issues of readiness, responsibility and effectiveness were also addressed by
ensuring that at least 99% of the entire questionnaires were filled and returned on
time. Questionnaires based survey, Interviews and observation were used in data
collection
The findings indicated that creativity, innovation and learning culture influenced
positive change in the organization by having important skills fit in the 21st century
and add value to employees professional work performance, master the work, satisfy
the customers needs and meet various challenges emanating from within and outside,
while people, workers with inadequate knowledge and skills had nothing to
contribute.
The study was confined to the period of five years i.e from 2008 to 2013. Finally, the
study projected the need to provide workers with appropriate knowledge and
proficiency skills as the driver of productivity and economic growth
